How to Check If Your Serial Number Is Valuable

Checking your bills takes just seconds and could reveal something worth hundreds of dollars. Look at the green serial number on the front of any bill; it appears twice (upper right and lower left). Then check for these characteristics:

All Same Digits?
If all 8 digits are identical (77777777), you have a solid, extremely rare and valuable.
Counts Up or Down?
If digits go 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 or the reverse, you have a ladder.
Starts with Zeros?
Low numbers (00000001-00001000) are collectible. Lower = more valuable.
Same Backwards?
If it reads the same forwards and backwards (radar), it's worth checking.
Only Two Digits?
Binary patterns using just two numbers are collected.
Looks Like a Date?
MMDDYYYY format dates, especially historic ones, have premium value.

What Increases Serial Number Value

Beyond the pattern itself, several factors can multiply what collectors will pay for your fancy serial number:

★ Star Note
Combine a fancy serial with a star note replacement and value can 2-3x.
Higher Denomination
$100 fancy serials are worth 50-100% more than $1 fancy serials.
Uncirculated Condition
A crisp, never-folded bill is worth 2-3x a circulated one.
Multiple Patterns
A radar that's also binary? Premium value for pattern combos.
Older Series
Pre-1970s series with fancy serials command higher premiums.
